Daniel Ortega Gonzalez

- Danny O. Metal Drumms-

I am 33 years old and I am originally from Mexico City, I grew up in Puebla de Los Angeles, and lived there until I was 15 years old, I trained musically in the city of Cancun Quintana Roo and I live in Vancouver, Canada.

I have been playing drums since I was 17 years old. Professionally for about 7 years to date, I have been active musically while working in the tourism industry and studying a Bachelor's Degree in Tourism at the Technological University of Cancun, a Diploma in Business Communication in Canada and currently studying the Masters in Business Administration at UCW in Vancouver Canada.

My story began when I was 12 years old. I saw a live performance of Alex “El Animal” Gonzalez with his band Maná in a massive event in one of the big stadiums in Mexico City. But at that time I saw my dream so far away until I was invited to join a garage rock band by a friend, he told me they needed a drummer and I simply accepted having zero knowledge of percussions.

The lead guitarist of my first rock band taught me the basics to start playing drums and after a couple of months of practice, we got our first gig. It was my first gig, I was in high school at the time and we had the opportunity to play during the Spring Festival in front of about 50 teenagers. That got me thinking about getting more involved in the rock scene behind the drums. Since that day every time I have had the opportunity to join a Metal Band to play and I have done it.

I have learned and been inspired by drum masters by participating and being part of their musical projects as well as getting in touch with people in the music world. I like to receive constructive criticism from them to improve my drumming skills on a daily basis.

On the other hand, when asked, I like to give practical advice to young drummers who are just starting out about my playing methods and what are my drumming inspirations, as I believe that the future of the drumming world depends on them, I would like to keep growing the passion for drumming.

Through more than 5 years of experience playing covers in local rock, and original metal bands in Mexico and 3 years in Vancouver Canada, I gained enough knowledge and huge repertoire of rock, blues, instrumental, and heavy metal songs which I am able to play without sheet music thanks to my self-taught method to learn several songs.

I have experience playing drums on stage, recording studios, performing for music videos and live television. I am always committed to every project I work on or participate in, putting all my illusion, commitment and effort to make things as good as possible.

My passion and goals are to record my own music. I have taken several courses and certificates in Ableton, Logic Pro and Pro Tools at Canadian Universities. Besides, having recorded the first album with my current Metal Band Coldweld, and thanks to the good response from my fans and followers I have received several proposals from companies and other bands to work together in promotion and presentations.
